Many, who have struggled to recover from damaging wildfires of the past (like the 2018 Camp Fire), have been pushed even further back on their recovery journey after 2021 fires like Dixie, Caldor, Beckwourth Complex, and more. We’re providing survivors–our neighbors–with emergency financial aid, long-term relief, as well as usable items like DA.AI Technology’s warm eco-blankets and scarves–but also emotional support. After a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Haiti on August 14, 2021, Tzu Chi volunteers in the United States mobilized a Haiti Earthquake Response Team to help. Together with Tzu Chi Haiti, local volunteers, and community partners, we have been distributing food packages that can feed families of up to 6 people for up to 4 weeks. When Hurricane Ida made landfall in the South and became a Tropical Storm on its way northeast, it brought heavy rains, winds, and destruction on its path. In response, volunteers across Tzu Chi USA – including in our Southern, Mid-Atlantic, Greater Washington DC, and Northeastern Regions – have mobilized to bring financial assistance, care packages, and a shoulder to lean on.
